This was sent to us here at JDJ regarding a new site to promote Java applications.
As of 1st December 2003, The Information People are proud to launch a new service for developers and businesses creating Java and WebStart based applications. JavaWebStart.NET is a web directory and platform to help promote Java on the desktop, from a broad range of application categories.Great idea, and while the site is a little rough around the edges, lets hope it becomes a good resource for showcasing good quality Java applications. I think an independent site outside of Sun is definitely required. Although this site does need submissions and does need the ability for readers to leave comments. I am wondering if it would be easier to do that site using a blog. Its got all the same characteristics and a lot of the mailing-list, rss, feedback comes part and parcel of a blog.Submission to the directory is free and we confirm every application for their relavence in the selected category and that they meet the sites terms and conditions.
Could you please consider an anouncement in Java Developers Journal so that developers may take advantage of the site and its active promotion.
At any rate, best of luck to them.

Thanks for your comments Alan! I am working hard to enhance the website, adding new features and a more professional look.
Comments and suggestions are always welcome. Java has always been my favorite development language and I wanted to give something back to the community.

I think it is a great idea. It will be interesting to see if this catches on. I think they need more info on the applications as well. A two sentence description doesn't help me much. User comments/ratings would also be required for the site to be of much use. I don't think a generic blog would be of great use for this, but they could copy the concepts from someone like amazon for ratings and feedback.
